Halo 03:39
I once tried to assassinate my mate I once threw up my hands and blew you away I once cried out to the God of woe, to know I once knew all I had to do was lose And everyone needs a hero And everyone needs a gun And everyone needs a halo, a halo but me I once read how the queen had led her dead I once died and came back to life as a knife And everyone is a silo And everyone is a sun And everyone needs a halo, a halo but me

It's alright, another night with a glass glued to my hand Never knowing, never caring where I land Never fear, I'm in the clear Let's take a shot then have a beer One more round for every one of us in here So I'll drink and try not to cry tonight Cause whiskey never did me wrong And I'll make my bed at the bottom of a bottle And sleep like a baby tonight I feel fine, must be the wine It went straight to my head Now I don't know and I don't care what you said I don't know where I'll go When I wake up and I find Another day, another devil is on my mind So I'll drink and I'll try not to cry tonight Cause whiskey never did me wrong And I'll make my bed at the bottom of a bottle And sleep like a baby tonight Yes I'll make my bed at the bottom of a bottle And won't think of my baby tonight

4.
I found the key to unlock your door You never thought about what having that key was for I lost the wind beneath my wings I came crashing down upon your gentle things Everyone here seems to know my name I've never been before, but I guess I'm glad I came There's a ghost that lives inside my walls I can hear her cry, and I can hear her call Who are you? I lost you, then I found you........ Who are you?
5.
I should've known that you would've flown Out of my life like a bird The wind brought you in once again And you couldn't stay with me, and you wanted more for free And now the shadows eat me alive And I wonder how you'll survive In this cruel world without me as your girl And now I'm alone and the pain has only grown Out of my life, out of my sight I watched you fly in the night But I know one day you'll return When my heart no longer burns And you'll want more than I can give in this world
6.
Way down deep within Way down deep within I found my closest kin Way down deep within At first I drank the wine To dull my woeful tune But it's cloud of forgetfulness faded away too soon So I gave my love away I gave my love for free But as I tried to fill my holes The lower I would sink And when I got so low Oh yes I got so low I took my pain's hand And led myself home Way down deep within Way down deep within I found my closest kin Way down deep within
7.
All I Need 04:52
For years here below I have wasted it all Watched it wash away in a slow flood of tears And the wrong turns that I made To the prisons I have stayed Took from me oh such precious years With heavy chains I bound my spirit to the ground Now I know the devil's voice when she speaks Oh and she wants my name to be buried in shame I dug this whole but now I see That all I need is your love All I need is your light All I need is your love Your sweet mercy in my life If I need all you can give Oh your know I'll take all I can get Though I'm weary and I'm dying I know the worst hasn't happened yet Where the light used to show brightly sin dims the glow Like a wall all that stands in front of me Is the evil I have done that separates me from the one The only one that can set me free All I need is your light All I need is your love Your sweet mercy in my life If I need all you can give
8.
They say you can't go home After you've left all you've known But you'll go back to The place where you Kept all your hidden truth It's not like you didn't That it was your own row to hoe But you'll try and try To make someone else's lie Your own familiar tie They say you can't go home They say you're all alone
9.
Dirty Moon* 02:50
Dirty moon, neath an asphalt sky You promised me this, just one goodnight kiss Beneath a dirty moon Dirty moon, we were never to blame We were lookin for love, never saw that above Hung a dirty moon You never once thought that I'd leave so soon But that was before I saw the dirty moon Dirty moon, now the curse is cast And I fear nothing more than you at my door and a dirty moon You never once thought that I'd come so soon But that was before I saw the dirty moon Dirty moon, neath an asphalt sky And my lesson to learn is that you'll always get burned by a dirty moon
10.
The last time I saw you you were all dressed in blue Waving a feather, flailing around in June We hadn't spoken about things that had broken in two But you were right about me Lightning strikes me too many times You won't find me on the floor Killed by friends I never thought I had Bested by a tricky bed I had a feeling that you were unseemingly true But you were the best at never investing in full But time heals all the sticky wounds Lightning strikes me too many times You won't find me on the floor Killed by friends I never thought I had Bested by a tricky bed

about

*Recorded Live in Comfort Station

With her first full length LP Way Down Deep (out on 10/21/14), Angela James has taken her nascent career to the next level of craftsmanship by employing some of Chicago’s finest jazz improv players and incorporating them into a bold sonic tapestry that highlights both her refined ear and wide-ranging influences. Her music speaks to new horizons in progressive Americana in a way that feels both indebted and freed from the strictures of time.

Angela James Chicago, Illinois

Angela James’ music brings to mind the rich, deep voices of artists like Patsy Cline and Rosanne Cash with the narrative sensibility of more modern female troubadours like Neko Case and Gillian Welch.
